"Parts of" Photo Cards
These cards teach external anatomy the way it was meant to be done. Using a mix of full-color and black-and-white photography,
each part of the whole is clearly isolated in its natural color while the rest of the subject recedes into the background in muted
shades of gray. Within each packet there is one photo that depicts each key external anatomical part for that species. For example,
in the turtle packet there is one card showing the entire turtle in full color and then one card for each of its key parts where only that
part of the photo is in full color (head, tympanum, eyes, nostrils, jaw, neck, carapace, plastron, forelegs, hind legs, clawed feet, and
tail).
We worked with a zoologist and, a botanist, and a team of Montessori teachers and trainers to be certain we chose the right parts to
depict for each species: these parts lay the groundwork for future discussions of evolution. This is the ideal way to explore in-depth
the classes introduced in the Natural World/Zoology cards. Later, use these to introduce the wonderful classification work with our
"Parts of" Definition Cards.
Printed in a 3-part format, each packet contains control cards (3 2/3" x 4 1/3”), matching picture cards (3 2/3” x 3”), and word cards (3
2/3” x 1 1/8”) all with rounded corners. Download our free lesson plans for detailed instructions on how to use these cards.

This set includes one packet for each key vertebrate class
described above: bird (zebra finch), amphibian (frog),
mammal (horse), fish (goldfish), and reptile (turtle). By
presenting a key species from each vertebrate class, you
lay the foundation for discussions of evolution. Think of the
conversations you'll have as the child discovers the
similarities and differences among vertebrate classes. Why
is it that frog's and turtles have tympanum while mammals
have ears, birds have ear patches, and fish have no ears at
all (they have lateral lines instead)?
Unlaminated: $58.95
Laminated: $89.95

8 matching picture cards, and 8 word cards; 24 cards
total all with rounded corners
Unlaminated: $11.95

control cards, 8 matching picture cards, and 8 word
cards; 24 cards total all with rounded corners

This set includes one packet for each key invertebrate
class as described above: echinoderm (starfish/sea star),
mollusk (snail), crustacean (lobster), arachnid (spider),
and insect (butterfly). Five packets all together. By
presenting a key species from these invertebrate
phyla/classes, you lay the foundation for discussions of
evolution. Think of the conversations you'll have as the
child discovers the similarities and differences among
invertebrate groups. Why is it that snails and starfish have
tentacles while insects and crustaceans have antennae
and arachnids don't have anything like those at all?

Botany
"Parts of" the Flower: Dicot
Unlaminated: $11.95
Laminated: $18.95
Dicots are the "typical" flowers we are most familiar with.
This flower from a lemon tree displays the key parts of a
dicot including flower, petal, stamens, pistil, sepal, corolla,
calyx, perianth, and stem. 9 control cards, 9 matching picture
cards, and 9 word cards; 27 cards total all with rounded

"Parts of" the Flower: Monocot
Unlaminated: $11.95
Laminated: $18.95
So many flowers the children encounter everyday do not
follow the "rules" of the idealized flower seen in textbooks.
By teaching children the parts of a dicot (above) and
monocot (here) we give them the tools to begin to distinguish
among flower families. This day lily vividly isolates the key
parts of a monocot including flower, tepal (a petal-like
structure that functions as both a petal and a sepal),
perianth, pistil, stamens, and stem. 6 control cards, 6
matching picture cards, and 6 word cards; 18 cards total all
with rounded corners
"Parts of" the Leaf
Unlaminated: $11.95
Laminated: $18.95
Leaves are ubiquitous in the child's outdoor and indoor
experience. This example from a river birch will captivate the
budding botanist by showing the leaf and its blade, margin,
apex, base, primary vein, secondary veins, petiole, auxiliary
bud, and stem. 10 control cards, 10 matching picture cards,
and 10 word cards; 30 cards total all with rounded corners
"Parts of" the Tree
Unlaminated: $11.95
Laminated: $18.95
Begin your botany studies here with the entire plant and each
of its key parts isolated. We use a bonsai ficus tree to clearly
show all the parts of a tree including tree, trunk, branches,
roots, and leaves. 5 control cards, 5 matching picture cards,
and 5 word cards; 15 cards total all with rounded corners
