Level 4: Challenging phonetic words
These are the most challenging words in the set; each word contains more than one phonogram/digraph
and/or double letters. Begin Level 4 after completing all relevant packets in
Level 3. Start with Packet A (one
syllable words) then work at the child's pace through each remaining packet in this level.
Packets D & E
feature all completely phonetic
compound words!

When the child is confident with all packets, move on to puzzle words, 3-part reading cards, and first-reader
books. Each Packet contains 6 control cards (3¾” x 4¼”), 6 matching picture cards (3¾” x 3”), and 6 word
cards (3¾” x 1¼”); 18 cards in each packet all with rounded corners. Download our
free lesson plans for
detailed instructions on how to use these cards. You can also
download free puzzle words to use after the
child completes this level.
