This cork fabric is luxurious to touch but incredibly resilient. It sheds water just like the cork bark on a cork tree!

Water-resistant, soft, can be used independently, durable, environmentally-friendly... these are just a few of the many wonderful ways to describe our aprons.

To get the design just right, we enlisted the help of Montessori teacher trainers and hundreds (really) of Montessori teachers. The results are the perfect apron design. (You can read all about it in our blog post on Apron Design.)

  • Water-resistant, sustainable fabric: Our real cork fabric is incredibly soft and just delicious to touch. Just like on the tree, cork fabric readily sheds water. On top of that, it is an environmentally-friendly material that is both ecological and sustainable.

  • Flexible, soft neck: Our primary (ages 3 to 6) aprons have an extra soft elastic neck that adapts to fit over smaller heads or big hair! The waist closure can be either hook and loop (similar to Velcro but stronger) or tie strings, you choose!

  • Strong fastener: We sew 4" of velcro near the front/middle of the apron so that the child can look down and readily see what they are attaching. The strap contains 3" of velcro so that it is adjustable for larger and smaller waists. And, of course, we round the corners on the velcro so there are no pokey edges.

  • Long ties: For our tie closures, we attach enough tie to each side so that the child can bring the ties to the front or tie them in the back.

  • Sized to grow with your child: Length is approx. 17 3/4" and width is approx. 12 1/2". The waist can be tighter or looser depending on the child. These dimensions work for most children between the ages of 3 and 6.
  • Matching mats: Our 11" x 17" mats are made from the same cork fabric as our aprons.

Fabric Care

We have tossed all of our aprons in the wash to see how they hold up. None were the worse for wear, not even the cork! Before washing, we even soaked the cork in water, smeared it with lotion, let it soak up oil, and covered it in soap. None of these tests resulted in any discoloration; we were joyfully astonished! Even though we had no wear in our washing machine test, with repeated washing machine use we expect the edges to fray, the twill tape to shrink, and the elastic to age. So, we recommend hand wiping/washing and hanging to dry.

Made in the USA.

Note: Sometimes, we may need to use a slightly different fabric/trim than pictured.
