Cloth Pouches: Our favorite way to house and display our alphabets is in our Alphabet Pocket Chart Cloth Pouches. These are color-coded to match your alphabet.

You can also display and organize these in a craft box (like the one available from the Container Store; box not included).

A Note to Montessorians

Introduce the alphabet when the child can recognize (second-period) most sandpaper letters (pink, blue, and green). Use the pink/blue alphabet side-by-side with the green phonogram alphabet.

A Note to Teachers

Whenever you start work with any movable alphabet, remember that the first lesson is how to carry the container/pouch, take letters out, and put them back in. Don't be afraid to practice doing this many times before you write a single word. If you find that children are often dropping their alphabets, revisit this lesson as often as needed.
