Writing

Writing is easier than reading so it comes first. Our pre-reading movable alphabets take a playful, awe-inspiring approach to writing that is rooted in exploring language, including the 40 key sounds of English.  

Use these to help children "write" their own words with letter tiles. You don't have to worry about spelling yet, just teach the children the key sounds of our language (often done with sandpaper letters) Once they can recognize the sounds, they can start phonetically spelling words. This not only prepares them for reading but also helps them organize their thinking and realize that they can make their ideas visible. The roots of self-efficacy and agency are built with these alphabet activities.
