Fine Art Matching Cards

Get your hands on the fine art you have grown to love from our Fine Art Display Cards. 

Now, with matching cards, children can work with the artwork they love. At the same time, they'll be training their memory and developing their hand-eye coordination. What's not to love?

The breathtaking art in this collection includes artwork from Europe, America, and around the world. The matching format lets children lay their hands on and work with the artwork they've come to love through the Fine Art Card activities.

First, match the fine artwork directly, side by side. Then, add distance by placing one set of cards far away from the other set. Finally, flip them upside down and layout them out in a grid for classic memory matching games. This challenges the children, adds interest to inspire more repetition, and gives cause for purposeful movement.

Larger Matching Format

We made these matching cards a bit larger than our traditional matching cards so that the children can engage more closely with the gorgeous details of each piece of art.

• Cards are approx. 4¼” x 5½" 
• Matching format includes two sets of identical fine art pieces
  
• Each set of 6 cards has a red or blue dot on the back (to make it easy to sort them out); 12 cards total
  
• Rounded corners (no pricked fingers or dog-eared cards)
• Comes in a sturdy, clear reclosable bag for storage

Our matching cards contain no written language on the cards themselves. The backs contain only a red dot or a blue dot so they can sort the cards into sets and play memory matching (with the cards upside down on the work area). But don't worry, we include a printed key in each packet so you can reference the name and artist for each work of art.

READ THE LESSON PLAN

The Fine Art Series

1. We recommend introducing fine art with our Fine Art Display Cards. Use those larger format cards to explore the details of each piece of art and learn about the year it was made, the artist, and the art's style.
2. Then, move on to these Fine Art Matching cards. These allow children to work with the artwork they love in a new way.
3. When the children begin to write, inspire them to write about their favorite artwork using the movable alphabet, chalkboards, or pencil/paper (whatever is appropriate for that child).
4. Once the children are reading non-phonetic words, introduce the 3-Part Fine Art Cards. Then, move on with the 3-Part Artist Cards where they match the names of the artists with their image.
5. Finally, after the children succeed with the 3-Part Fine Art cards, introduce the Fine Art 4-Part Cards where they match the artwork, its name, and its artists.This is an activity that truly grows with your children!

World

This series features fine art from each continent with a permanent human population including textile beadwork (North America), painting of pottery (South America), sculpture (Europe), carved mask (Africa), painting (Asia), and drawing (Australia). Use this as your first introduction to art in many of its common expressions.

American

This series features paintings by Tanner, Cassatt, Duncanson, Homer, Hopper, and Whistler. These pieces provide examples of Impressionism, the Hudson River School, and American Realism.

Europe Series 1

This series features paintings by Botticelli, Manet, Michelangelo, Raphael, Rembrandt, and Renoir. These pieces provide examples of Impressionism, the Italian Renaissance, the Dutch Golden Age, and Realism.

Europe Series 2

This series features paintings by Vermeer, Fragonard, Gauguin, Monet, Velázquez, and Da Vinci. These pieces provide examples of the Dutch Golden Age, the Late Baroque period, the Spanish Golden Age, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, and the Italian Renaissance.

Europe Series 3

This series features paintings by Van Gogh, Degas, Kandinsky, Klimt, Rousseau, and Seurat. These pieces provide examples of French Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, the Abstract style, Arts and Crafts/Art Nouveau movements, Primitivism, and Pointillism.

Europe Series 4

This series features paintings by El Greco, Brendekilde, Bruegel the Elder, Caillebotte, Cézanne, and David. These pieces provide examples of the Spanish Renaissance style, Social Realism, the Flemish Renaissance style, Impressionism and Realism, Post-Impressionism, and Radical Neo-Classicism.
